How to uninstall a VanDyke Software application
Windows applications
To uninstall any VanDyke Software application on Windows, open the Control Panel and select "Uninstall a program". Please see Microsoft's website for additional information.
macOS applications
SecureCRT and SecureFX
To uninstall SecureCRT or SecureFX on macOS, open your Applications folder and then drag the application into the Trash. Please see Apple's website for additional information.
How to uninstall VShell on macOS
- Stop the vshelld daemon/service by running the following command in the native terminal:
sudo launchctl unload /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vandyke.vshelld.plist
- Locate all of the files that were placed on the system as part of the vshelld package. Native terminal command:
sudo pkgutil --only-files --files com.vandyke.VShell.pkg

- Remove the files that were added by the installer (see output of
pkgutil
command in step 2).
- Remove the
/usr/local/share/doc/vshell-x.y.z
folder which contains the history.txt, readme.txt
, etc. files listed in the pkgutil
output of step 2 (in the example, this folder is named vshell-4.3.3
).
- Remove other files that were created by vshelld upon startup — not placed there by the installer. These files may include:
/usr/local/etc/vshelld_config
/usr/local/etc/hostkey
/usr/local/etc/vshell_pid.txt
/usr/local/etc/vshelld_eval.lic
/usr/local/etc/vshelld_hostkey
/usr/local/etc/vshelld_hostkey.pub
- Remove the package reference from the system using the following command within a native terminal:
sudo pkgutil --forget com.vandyke.VShell.pkg
How to uninstall VanDyke ClientPack on macOS
- Locate all of the files that were placed on the system as part of the clientpack package. Native terminal command:
sudo pkgutil --only-files --files com.vandyke.clientpack.pkg
Example output:

- Remove the files that were added by the installer (see output of
pkgutil
command in step 1).
- Remove the
/usr/local/share/doc/clientpack-x.y.z
folder which contains the clientpack_history.txt, clientpack_readme.txt
, etc. files listed in the pkgutil
output of step 1 (in the example, this folder is named clientpack-8.2.0
).
- Remove the package reference from the system using the following command within a native terminal:
sudo pkgutil --forget com.vandyke.clientpack.pkg
Linux applications
To uninstall any VanDyke Software application on Linux, check the documentation for the distribution and version of Linux you're using.
For TAR installations, simply remove the files you extracted when you downloaded and opened the TAR package.
