VSHELL 2.1 MAKES LIFE EASIER FOR OVERWORKED NETWORK PROS

Latest Release of VanDyke SSH Server Adds Triggers To Automate Routine Administrative Tasks

Albuquerque, N.M. (May 28, 2002) VanDyke Software™, a developer of customer-driven software solutions, today announced the public beta release of version 2.1 of its VShell™ SSH2™ server for Windows NT® and Windows® 2000. The increasing demands placed on network professionals to secure their networks and make them more efficient were the catalyst for creating triggers, which are automation devices that allow the administrator to respond quickly and programmatically to specific VShell events. Triggers, like all VShell controls, are accessed through the Windows Control Panel and are added as standard Windows command line statements. With file triggers, administrators can invoke programs such as anti-virus scanners and file compression/decompression utilities, or move files to a different folder on the network after they have been uploaded. Notification triggers can call programs like third-party pagers and SNMP alerts, or generate e-mail messages when a user has exceeded their permitted number of authentication requests.

"Triggers provide a new level of server automation to busy network professionals," said Jeff P. Van Dyke, president of the company. "VShell 2.1 makes it possible for routine tasks that consume valuable time to be set up once using VShell's intuitive interface and run as events require."

VShell 2.1 extends any Windows server's ability to act as a focal point for information sharing in corporate, government, and educational environments, combining simple, intuitive configuration with the strong security of the Secure Shell protocol. VShell uses Windows NT Access Control Lists (ACLs), managed from its native Windows control panel, to align network access and file transfer privileges with a company's security policies. The new release also provides options for allowing or denying permissions for remote execution on a user or group basis and displaying a message of the day that can communicate alerts and other critical information when users log onto the server.
