VSHELL 2.1 SERVER PROVIDES KEY TO MANAGING SECURE WINDOWS NETWORKS

(Albuquerque, N.M. July 25, 2002) — VanDyke Software™, a developer of customer-driven software solutions, today announced the official release of version 2.1 of its VShell™ server for Windows NT®, Windows® 2000, and Windows XP. VShell 2.1 introduces new public-key management features for the SSH2™ protocol, providing network administrators with a powerful tool to meet increasing demands for security and efficiency.

VShell 2.1 allows any client application that supports the Secure Shell public-key subsystem to provide simple and secure end user management of public keys. VShell simplifies security administration by allowing network administrators to define the folder where user public keys are stored. Users have no need to know the path to their public key folder or permission to navigate through the server's directory structure.

"VShell 2.1 includes the latest in a series of VanDyke innovations in public-key management for Secure Shell," said Jeff P. Van Dyke, president of the company. "Public Key Assistant reduces the cost and complexity of delivering strong security to the desktop and allows system administrators to focus on more critical tasks."

VShell 2.1 also introduces triggers, which can increase productivity by automating routine administrative tasks. Simple to set up through VShell's native Windows control panel, file triggers allow administrators to automatically move uploaded files to a different folder or invoke third-party file utilities such as virus scanners or compression/decompression tools. Alert triggers can generate e-mail messages or pager notifications when a user has exceeded their permitted number of authentication requests.

For system administration, file transfer, and secure network access to data and applications, VShell combines simple, intuitive configuration with the strong security of the Secure Shell protocol. VShell 2.1 is available for a free 30-day evaluation by downloading the fully functional software from www.vandyke.com. Three license configurations are available: VShell Personal for US$249, VShell Workgroup for US$399, and VShell Enterprise for US$799.
