VANDYKE SOFTWARE TAKES THE LEAD IN RACE TO MATURE SSH ON WINDOWS PLATFORM

Release Of VShell™ Server 2.0 Beta Delivers Greater Control Over SFTP File Transfer, Certificate Validation

(February 5, 2002) Albuquerque, N.M. — VanDyke Software™ Inc., a leading provider of security and access software, announced today the first beta release of version 2.0 of its VShell Server for SSH2® on Microsoft® Windows® XP, NT® and 2000 platforms. This major upgrade confirms VShell’s position as a nexus for enterprise security, putting in place key tools for managing digital certificates and file transfer access.

VShell 2.0 adds multiple root directory access points so that privileges can be granted selectively to use Secure Shell SFTP file transfer. Handling of digital certificates improves through certificate mapping and validation. Certificate mapping enables users to be associated with their digital certificates without storing X.509 certificates on the server. Certificates may now be validated through a chain of certificate authorities.

"VShell 2.0 is a major step in the evolution of Windows as a secure network server platform," said Jeff P. Van Dyke, president of VanDyke Software. "VShell’s new capabilities in management and public key infrastructure allow larger organizations to use VShell to host file transfer and data tunneling services."

With multiple SFTP root access points, users or groups can be assigned separate entry points to the file system. Users requiring access to sensitive corporate data such as server logs or personnel records can view information not accessible to other groups. For most organizations, this capability allows correctly aligning the access rights and privileges of diverse departments from network administrators to telecommuters to clients or partners.

VShell, introduced in October 2001, was the first shipping commercial SSH2 server for Microsoft Windows NT and 2000, and the first with support for Windows access control lists. VShell 2.0 is available for a free 30-day evaluation by downloading the fully functional software from www.vandyke.com. Three license configurations are available: VShell Personal for US$249, VShell Workgroup for US$399, and VShell Enterprise for US$799.
