First to Release Commercial SSH2™ Server for Windows®
Albuquerque, N.M. (December 12, 2000) — Van Dyke Technologies, Inc., a provider of quality Internet software, announced today the official release of the VShell™ 1.0 server. The VShell server is the first commercial SSH2 server for Microsoft® Windows NT® and Windows 2000®, and opens up SSH2 to companies searching for a reliable, Windows-based security solution.
The VShell server capitalizes on the classic strengths of Windows—easy installation, graphical configuration, and cost-efficient PC hardware. Open-standard Secure Shell™2 technology gives VShell a base for a broad range of services: secure authentication, encrypted shell access, flexible application data tunneling with SSH port forwarding, and secure file transfer.
"We're pleased to be the first company to deliver SSH2 technology for Windows," said Jeff P. Van Dyke, president of Van Dyke Technologies, Inc. "The VShell server offers a lot to companies that need remote access and security solutions which are affordable and really work. Windows users benefit from the secure network login and data encryption. Using the encrypted command shell, system administrators can log onto the network securely from a remote site or home to check on a system—using Windows, Unix, Linux, or any machine that runs an SSH2 client. And file transfer is used in so many tasks every day, many consultancies and other organizations want VShell just for secure file transfer."
The VShell server runs as an NT service, with VShell configuration through a Windows control panel. Administrators can control whether shell, port forwarding, and file transfer services are turned on.
Fully functional evaluation software can be downloaded from www.vandyke.com. The VShell server is available in three versions at introductory prices through January 31, 2001: VShell Personal for US$249, VShell Workgroup for US$399, and VShell Enterprise for US$799. The VShell server's strong encryption technology, licensed from RSA Security Inc., is available for export worldwide, subject to regulation by the U.S. and other governments.
