VanDyke Software Publishes New White Paper About SSH Port Forwarding

Albuquerque, N.M. (March 5, 2002) VanDyke Software™, a developer of customer-driven software solutions, announced today the release of a new white paper that illustrates the use of the Secure Shell (SSH) protocol to secure network and Internet communications. The new white paper explores the benefits of using SSH port forwarding, a technique that allows non-secure data traffic to be "tunneled" through a secure, encrypted SSH connection.

"Port Forwarding over the Secure Shell can, for many organizations, provide the same benefits as a much more expensive and proprietary virtual private network (VPN) solution," said Jeff P. Van Dyke, president of the company. "Using port forwarding, companies can cost-effectively secure their Internet e-mail, file transfers, and other critical communications."

Intended for network professionals and technology decision makers, the white paper is amply illustrated and provides a thorough introduction to port forwarding for readers with little or no familiarity with the Secure Shell protocol. Lisa Phifer, the author, has written extensively about a wide variety of network infrastructure, access, and security technologies. The white paper can be read online or downloaded in Acrobat PDF format from the VanDyke Software web site Solutions page at www.vandyke.com/solutions/index.html .
