SecureFX® 1.7 Provides Encrypted FTP Through An SSH2™ Secure Tunnel
Albuquerque, N.M. (April 4, 2000) — Van Dyke Technologies, Inc., a provider of quality Internet software, announced today the official release of SecureFX 1.7 for NT 4.0 and Windows® 95/98. SecureFX employs the strong encryption technology of the Secure Shell™ protocol version 2 (SSH2) to provide web developers and other FTP users the choice of standard FTP or encrypted FTP transfers in one client application. The company also released AbsoluteFTP® 1.7, its standard FTP client for Windows. Fully functional evaluation software may be downloaded worldwide from www.vandyke.com.
The combination of SSH2 and FTP is capable of providing a high level of encryption without changing the universally used FTP protocol. When connected to a site running an SSH2 server, SecureFX establishes a secure tunnel that encrypts all data transferred between SecureFX and the server. With proper location and configuration of the SSH2 client and server, plaintext FTP passwords can be protected on insecure networks such as the Internet. SecureFX offers a choice of RC4, 3DES and Twofish encryption ciphers up to 256 bits. Secure user authentication is accomplished by using encrypted passwords or DSA public-private keys of up to 1024 bits.
"SecureFX is an important tool in Internet security," said Jeff P. Van Dyke, president. "It helps security-conscious users eliminate plaintext passwords wherever possible, and have a quality standard FTP interface for all their work. SecureFX adds security for FTP to the ease of use and configurability of the AbsoluteFTP client, the same way SecureCRT™ added SSH security to the CRT terminal emulator to create our successful Windows terminal client for SSH."
SecureFX emphasizes simplicity and usability in all operations, from a session database preloaded with over 200 FTP sites to advanced features like site synchronization. Basic settings for FTP-over-SSH2 connections are on one panel. SecureFX includes many other popular FTP features, including a Windows Explorer interface, interrupted transfer resume, multiple simultaneous connections and support for SOCKS and other firewalls.
Encryption technology for SecureFX is licensed from RSA Security, Inc. of San Mateo, California, www.rsa.com. SecureFX contains strong encryption technology and is available worldwide subject to export and import regulations of the U.S. government and other foreign agencies and authorities.
Until April 30, 2000, SecureFX has introductory prices of US$39.95 for a single license, 10 licenses for US$350 and 100 licenses for US$2000. Thereafter, one license will cost US$59.95, 10 licenses US$500 and 100 licenses US$3500. Prices for AbsoluteFTP begin at $29.95.
Van Dyke Technologies has over 250,000 licensed users of SecureCRT since the first version was released in 1998. Van Dyke Technologies is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico and can be reached at www.vandyke.com.
