SecureCRT 8.0 and SecureFX 8.0 for Windows offer new display themes, toolbar icons, and support for high-DPI monitors. Also new for Windows is improved smart card (PIV/CAC) support.
Albuquerque, N.M. (March 31, 2016) — VanDyke Software®, a developer of multi-platform secure terminal emulation, secure file transfer, and remote administration software, today released the newest official versions of SecureCRT® 8.0 SSH client and SecureFX® 8.0 secure file transfer client for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
The 8.0 release of SecureCRT for Windows focuses on improving productivity with new ways to customize the interface, including tab groups for organizing connected sessions and doing side-by-side comparisons of session output. "After testing SecureCRT 8.0, I can say that it is the next generation SSH client," said an IT security manager and long-time SecureCRT customer. "It is very powerful and highly customizable for almost every task."
"Tab groups are a great way for system administrators to save time when working with multiple sessions," said Maureen Jett, Product Director for SecureCRT. "You can group tabbed sessions together and quickly switch between the groups. Or you can multi-task by working in one tab group while you monitor the output from a command in another."
SecureFX 8.0 for Windows helps automate and save time with a built-in task scheduler that allows transfer and synchronize operations to run once, or on daily, weekly, or monthly intervals.
SecureCRT 8.0 adds the ability to assign colors to button icons on the button bar so that they are easy to see and organize. A Command window "Send characters immediately" mode sends control characters and escape sequences to sessions as they are typed, so that you can edit files with vi or nano, use CTRL+C to stop running commands, and perform tab completion. Other improvements include new TFTP server connection options and the addition of TN3270 to SecureCRT's extensive emulation support, making it easier to standardize on one terminal emulation application.
Enhanced support for smart cards with X.509v3 certificates (CAC/PIV, etc.) allows SecureCRT and SecureFX for Windows to better meet the needs of many military and government customers, as well as those who need to connect to networking equipment that uses RFC 6187 for certificate-based authentication. On Windows, you can now choose which smart card certificate to use for authentication and export your certificates public key to OpenSSH format so you can more easily configure remote servers for public-key authentication. Both applications can now generate and use ECDSA (RFC 5656) and Ed25519 keys as well as use PuTTY's native PPK files for public-key authentication. All platforms support host key fallback, ensuring connections automatically fall back to the ssh-rsa algorithm if a connection attempt with ssh-dss fails.
