(May 26, 2011) — VanDyke Software®, a developer of multi-platform terminal emulation software and security solutions, today announced the official release of SecureCRT® 6.7 for Linux. This new release offers Linux users powerful session management, advanced security, and time-saving automation tools in a tabbed GUI terminal emulator.
SecureCRT 6.7 gives network administrators a single application solution that works on Windows, Mac, and Linux (currently Ubuntu and Red Hat) platforms. Ken Clifford, a network engineer who tested SecureCRT 6.7, said, "I love that the user community will be able to use this client to access their local shell, which gives them a one-client solution for not only remote sessions but also for the terminal." This new release features local shell support, a customizable button bar, tabbed sessions for switching connections, and instant feedback on session status.
SecureCRT's automation tools include embedded Python scripting support and a script recorder. "Scripting allows me to formulate a list of mundane tasks into an executable file that will do bulk configurations," said Karl Crous, a network team leader at University of Waikato. "I've used other terminal applications, but I found SecureCRT to be the best."
Joseph Dougherty at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute evaluated the 6.7 release for his educational networking lab, saying "the tabbed SecureCRT GUI and, even more importantly, scripting support are extraordinarily useful in our setting — the less time students waste opening up connections and doing device wipes and reloads, the better."
