Latest release from VanDyke Software adds new tabbed interface, improved session management, and integration with SecureFX
Albuquerque, N.M. (June 16, 2005) — When VanDyke Software® began designing the next version of SecureCRT®, they did what they have done since releasing the CRT™ terminal emulator nearly 10 years ago—they listened to their customers. SecureCRT is the tool of choice for thousands of network professionals around the world, combining a feature-filled terminal emulator with the security of the Secure Shell (SSH) protocol. Over the years, VanDyke's customers have clamored for better ways to manage the connections they create to a variety of servers and network devices.
Today, VanDyke Software released SecureCRT 5.0 which features a tabbed window interface and other enhancements that deliver a better way for network managers, software developers, and knowledge workers to manage the connections they make to their networks. SecureCRT's new tabbed interface not only makes it easier than ever to manage a number of sessions at once, it also provides at-a-glance indicators that show the current status of every session.
"Tabs help me keep my workspace organized, move around faster and enhance my productivity," wrote Christias, a tester from Greece, in the discussion forum VanDyke set up to discuss the new release with customers and evaluators. "I can organize groups of sessions, it's easier to switch between them, and my desktop is now neat and tidy."
Other new features include the ability to create different firewall configurations for each session, support for the IPv6 standard, dynamic port forwarding, and improved integration with SecureFX® 3.0, the latest version of VanDyke's secure file transfer application also released today. This integration allows a session to be configured in either application and accessed or modified in both.
"We get e-mails and phone calls on an almost daily basis from customers who tell us that they 'live' in SecureCRT—it is the first application they launch when they turn on their PC and they keep it running all day long," said Maureen Jett, Product Director for SecureCRT and SecureFX. "The new features we've delivered in this release were heavily influenced by the feedback we received from customers during testing."
A fully-functional evaluation copy of SecureCRT can be downloaded from the company's web site: www.vandyke.com. Evaluators have full access to VanDyke's expert technical support to assist with installation, configuration, and testing.
