SecureCRT 4.0 Allows Easier Enterprise Deployment of Secure Shell Benefits
Albuquerque, N.M. (October 8, 2002) — VanDyke Software™, a developer of customer-driven software solutions, today announced the official release of SecureCRT 4.0, the latest version of the company's best-selling Windows® secure access and administration client. SecureCRT provides remote access, data tunneling services, and file transfer services with the strong security of SSH2™. Version 4.0 provides a new solution for public-key management and provides network administrators control over the display of menu options, toolbars, and shortcuts for different user groups through a configuration file.
"The time has never been better for organizations to abandon non-secure protocols like Telnet and FTP by standardizing on VanDyke Software's open protocol-based products," said Jeff P. Van Dyke, president of the company. "Public Key Assistant reduces the burden on network managers by allowing end users to upload and manage their own public keys on the server. The interface customization options in version 4.0 can significantly reduce training and support costs."
Public Key Assistant, the latest VanDyke innovation in public-key management for the Secure Shell protocol, allows network managers to configure their Secure Shell servers to allow secure upload of public keys by end users, reducing an enormous administrative burden they have faced in the past. VanDyke Software's entire secure product line includes support for Public Key Assistant. To encourage broad adoption of this open protocol solution, VanDyke is also offering a modified source code version of the popular OpenSSH open source package that includes the public-key subsystem. The free download allows network managers running Linux or UNIX® servers to increase the ease with which their user communities can establish secure accounts.
SecureCRT's terminal emulation capabilities have been enhanced with two frequently requested features. Basic support for Wyse 50/60 emulation has been added to an extensive list of emulation modes that includes VT100, VT102, VT220, Linux console, SCO ANSI, and ANSI. Support for multi-byte character sets including Japanese, Chinese, and Korean is now available, increasing SecureCRT's compatibility with multinational businesses.
SecureCRT provides remote access, data tunneling services, and file transfer with the strong security of SSH2™. VanDyke products include the VShell™ server, SecureFX® for secure file transfer, Entunnel™ for transparent data tunneling, the CRT™ terminal emulator for connecting to remote hosts, and AbsoluteFTP® for non-secure file transfer. VanDyke sells and distributes its software over the Internet, offering 30-day evaluation of its products prior to purchase, and has more than 650,000 registered users in 103 countries.
