WINDOWS CLIENT INCREASES USABILITY, PERFORMANCE OF SSH

SecureCRT® 3.0 SSH Technology Offers Alternative to VPN

Albuquerque, N.M. (October 29, 1999) — Van Dyke Technologies, Inc., a provider of quality Internet software, announced today the official release of SecureCRT™ 3.0 for Windows® NT and Windows 95/98. SecureCRT becomes the only Windows SSH client available supporting both versions 1 and 2 of the IETF draft for the Secure Shell™ or SSH protocol. Fully functional evaluation software may be downloaded from the US and Canada only from www.vandyke.com.

SecureCRT's support for version 2 of the SSH protocol combines with SSH1 and telnet support to provide one application that meets many connectivity needs. SSH2™ support provides password and public key authentication for login security, with 3DES, RC4 and Twofish ciphers for data encryption. SSH2 port forwarding improves performance when tunneling multiple TCP/IP protocols.

"With version 2, SSH takes a big step toward becoming a backbone security technology of the Internet," said Jeff P. Van Dyke, president. "Improvements in core security and tunneling efficiency of TCP/IP port forwarding mean that companies can look to SSH to secure access to sensitive data such as e-mail or a corporate database. SecureCRT gives you a way to secure access to company data over the Internet without the complexity and expense of a VPN."

SSH tunneling uses a feature called port forwarding to secure data transmissions using standard TCP/IP ports between Windows clients and network servers. Common protocols like SMTP and IMAP can be secured with only minor reconfiguration of the e-mail or other client application.

SecureCRT includes a full-featured terminal emulation package in addition to SSH support. Network and Web administrators who need SSH access to critical equipment can also use SecureCRT's telnet and serial protocols to manage network resources. SecureCRT 3.0 provides complete VT100, VT102, VT220, and ANSI emulations, and adds SCO ANSI to the list.

SecureCRT 3.0 also offers the benefits of increased usability, with redesigned Connect, Session and Global Options dialogs. The new Connect Dialog supports nested folders to organize hundreds of sessions. ActiveX scripting support allows the use of scripting languages like VBScript and PerlScript to control the SecureCRT window, connections, input, printing and other features.

Encryption technology for SecureCRT is licensed from RSA Security, Inc., of San Mateo, California, www.rsa.com. SecureCRT's strong encryption technology is subject to export controls by the U.S. government, and is not generally available outside the US and Canada.

SecureCRT 3.0 is priced at US$99 for a single license, US$850 for 10 licenses, and US$5700 for 100 licenses.

Van Dyke Technologies has over 200,000 licensed users of SecureCRT since the first version was released in 1998. The company also sells the popular AbsoluteFTP® and CRT products. Van Dyke Technologies is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
