Implementing SSH by @stake security architect features extensive coverage of VanDyke client and server solutions
Albuquerque, N.M. (November 25, 2003) —VanDyke Software™, a leader in powerful and affordable Secure Shell solutions, has received extensive coverage of its VShell™ server and SecureCRT® and SecureFX® clients in two books published recently by Wiley. Implementing SSH, published this month and written by @stake Network Security Architect Himanshu Dwivedi, provides hands-on configuration and deployment techniques for VanDyke products to deliver a wide range of secure network services.
The book provides step-by-step instructions to enable secure remote access, secure file transfer, secure e-mail, and secure wireless networking (WiFi) using VanDyke Software products. Dwivedi offers compelling arguments for turning off nonsecure protocols like FTP and Telnet and for using Secure Shell (SSH) to securely manage network devices. He also discusses the use of Secure Shell as a software-only alternative to more expensive hardware VPNs.
"I wrote the book," said Dwivedi, in a recent interview in VanDyke's monthly newsletter, "to address the lack of usage knowledge—both by users who are aware of SSH but not its extension use and users who are not aware of it at all. Both can benefit from Secure Shell's security and extensive functionality. SSH's ease of use, as well as its secure and very functional remote access capabilities make it a very flexible solution to deploy."
VanDyke Software products also receive coverage in Wiley's TCP/IP for Dummies (5th Edition) published earlier this year. The book discusses the value in replacing a nonsecure Telnet sever with VanDyke's VShell server and SecureCRT client to provide secure access to the network.
"We have seen a marked increase in the amount of media coverage of the Secure Shell protocol in recent months," said Jeff P. Van Dyke, president of the company. "Our continuing focus in developing Secure Shell solutions for Windows and UNIX is to provide ease of use for the end user, superior control over the network for the system administrator, and great value to the organization."
