Survey Reveals 47% of Network Administrators Considering Cloud Computing Applications

Whether implementing cloud computing or not, significant percentage of network administrators view cloud computing as being either "very secure" or "somewhat secure"

BOCA RATON, FL and ALBUQUERQUE, NM, May 11, 2010 — In the seventh annual "What Keeps Network Administrators Up at Night" survey of 353 network administrators commissioned by VanDyke Software® and executed by Amplitude Research®, while only 15% said their enterprise has adopted cloud computing for one or more applications, another 47% said they were considering adopting cloud computing.

Among the 15% who have adopted cloud computing, more than four-in-ten (43%) rated it "very secure," and another four-in-ten (43%) rated it "somewhat secure."  For the 85% that have not adopted cloud computing, 14% rated it “very secure” and 56% rated it “somewhat secure.”

Among those who have not adopted cloud computing but are currently considering it, 18% rated it "very secure," and 63% rated it "somewhat secure."

In the end, a small percentage (15%) of non-adopters rated cloud computing as "not at all secure" or "not very secure," and more than one-third (39%) of this group indicated that security concerns are not the primary reason for non-adoption.

The 2010 study was commissioned by VanDyke Software and conducted online by Amplitude Research during the second and third week of April among nationwide IT web panelists.  In total, 353 surveys were completed by respondents who confirmed working as a "network or systems administrator" for their company / organization, with a maximum sampling margin of error of 5.2% at the 95% confidence level.
